Creative Rathangan Meitheal’s Programme of Work 2023

Seminars

Brigid International – This seminar will explore the legacy of early Irish missionaries who gave Brigid a presence in Europe which is reflected in church dedications, artwork, place names and folklore. Later a combination of emigration and missionary activity ensured that Brigid would be a popular girl’s name.

The Ireland We Imagined’ – will contrast the Ireland of the Irish Literary Revival - as imagined by artists, poets and writers - with post-Civil War Ireland.

A Greenish Transition’.  Just Transition this seminar will explore how we are manging the transition to a ‘biodiversity rich, environmentally sustainable and climate neutral economy’. This event questions the depth and focus of our transition so far asking -  Is it a ‘Just Transition’ and how is fairness measured? Or is it essentially a ‘greenish’ business as usual transition?

Art & Ecology Workshops

Art and Ecology Workshops (2) led by artist Monica de Bath, and Nuala Madigan (IPCC), for pupils from St Patrick’s BNS and Bunscoil Bhride.

Guided Walks (2)  – linked with ‘A Greenish Transition’ and focusing on land use, climate and biodiversity. Participants will be encouraged to ‘walk and draw’ and to move beyond simply consuming information, to think, respond, and create. (1) By the Blueway which has opened up access to a patchwork of wild spaces – for adults/family groups (2) An interdisciplinary walk for Transition Year Students.
