Over the course of six months, curator Orlaith Ross worked with the members of the Men's Shed in Sandyford. The idea was to bring the men together to learn new crafts and skills and share what they learned with others. The group took part in a range of workshops and demonstrations, and looked to Ireland’s incredible craft heritage which has inspired new inventive craft making.
The culmination of this project is an exhibition entitled Taking Time - An appreciation of Irish Craft which is on display in the Municipal Gallery in dlr LexIcon from 14th April to 9th June 2019.This specially selected exhibition features work from twelve Irish established and emerging craftspeople. Alongside the exhibition there's a full Learning Programme with lots of opportunities for people of all ages to get involved, including a weaving workshop for families, meeting some of the makers through a series of special talks, and a printing workshop for adults.
