This visual arts project will bring creative workshops to the Traveller Community and give equal access to creativity to all Travellers through Brú Bhríde, Western Traveller Centre in Tuam, Co. Galway. It will consist of a mixture of workshops with a choice of mixed media. Providing a variety of art media will cater for different forms of expression for each participant.
The projects will be group lead. Each member will choose the theme of their work. Workshops will include Oil Painting, Ceramic Clay Workshops and Printmaking workshops. Designs may be inspired by Traveller Culture, memories or experience, the theme is left open to the group. Participants will create pieces that they will take away with them.
The Creative Workshops will accommodate various arts skills and techniques for both adults and children within the community, encouraging each participant to realize their full artistic potential and build their creative confidence. The unique Traveller culture will be promoted and give the community access to the Arts in a way that they may not have had before. This project will instill an awareness of the therapeutic qualities and mental health benefits the Arts can bring to the Traveller Community. This project will also give a platform for the voice of the Traveller Community, to express their concerns, aspirations, memories, and experiences. Through this, project participants will realize the power and potential of Art as dialogue.
