Creativity in Older Age Laois

Creativity in Older Age Laois 2022 is a multifaceted initiative that engages with older adults in the county through a variety of approaches:

Fadó Faces is a portraiture project which culminates in an exhibition opening on Friday Aug 19 to Friday Sept 30 and celebrates older people in Laois as part of Heritage Week, Culture Night and Age Friendly Week.

Laois based artists, Kate Deegan, Bronagh Conroy, Pauline Conroy, Aishling Hennessy, Antoinette Breen, Kevin McCann, Mike Rafter, Mike Fisher, Allen Scully and Ray Murphy have through traditional portrait painting and digital art created a series of 20 artworks representing older adults that they have been introduced to through family members, friends or people they know from many locations across the county.

An audit of artistic supports and requirements for older artists in the county is a strategic means of developing and nurturing the artistic practices of our older artists. Our approach is to review and analyse need, and coordinate a number of development supports.

As part of Age Friendly Week, a 10 week programme of creative activities will be launched. Designed and delivered by older artists in Laois for older people in the county. These creative workshops will include poetry, painting, clay work, photography, writing, etc.

This initiative is a partnership between Laois Arts Office and Dunamaise Arts Centre celebrates older generations through creativity
