The Easky Scarecrow Festival has been a feature on the community calendar for the past 7 years. The event has massive community support which has been well documented and has a FB page with 1.400 followers.

People come from all over Sligo and beyond during the week of the festival. In the two weeks leading up to Halloween the village of Easky comes alive with spooky installations and sculptures that have been created by members of the public. There is huge anticipation as new new installations and art pieces start to populate the town.

Members of the public pay a small entry fee to participate and on Halloween night a judging panel of three invited guests select and announce the winning entries. There are a number of different categories which allows for recognition of the creative work of people with different abilities and resources.

For these reasons we want to run a weekend of high-quality artist led workshops

  • to encourage and support more people (particular more vulnerable) to get involved in the festival
  • to link our artistic community with the wider community
  • to create opportunity for artists living and working in the region to engage with and share their talents with members of their community
  • to create an economic opportunity to work professionally in their area
  • to raise the artistic quality of the festival and to support members of our community to realise their artistic ambitions.
