Creativity may seem like a sudden spark, but it's often rooted in years of conversations and shared experiences.
This year, artist Breda Mayock will create space where women from the Traveller and African communities in Mayo can nurture the relationships and dialogues that ignite collective creativity. These two groups were previously engaged in the art pieces Crown and Crowned, which explored the intricate connection between identity and hair.
The project will convene these women through a series of ten workshops, with six of the workshops will invite guest lecturers sharing their expertise on various subjects like history, politics, education, gender, folklore, art, and activism. Subsequently, the participants will engage in discussions centred around the themes presented and their own shared experiences.
Breda will document this entire process as a piece of art in its own right while simultaneously laying the foundation for future creativity!
