The Treasures in Our Bogs project funded through Creative Ireland, is a multi-faceted, multi-year approach to bogs with a focus on SW Donegal. It will be exploring their importance in history, heritage, oral histories, storytelling, culture, music, literature, traditional turf cutting, craft/industry, economy, flora, environmental protection, tourism & recreation. One of the most important aims of the project is to foster creativity and collaboration between our local communities and heritage specialists and those involved in the creative crafts.

It will assist in enhancing the understanding and story of the bogs both materially and non-materially in an imaginative manner.

Specifically, this grant will focus on a local community photographic exhibition of our boglands, following the traditional craft of hand-cutting turf and other uses of our ancient boglands. The second part of this year’s programme is a concert/workshop of music, storytelling, poetry and literature relating to our bogs.
