En Plein Air 2.0

En Plein Air 2.0 at Ballinglen is a series of five one-day painting workshops held outdoors and a corresponding series of artist talks held the next day. We have invited 5 artists, fellows of Ballinglen from Ireland to spend a day exploring, in practice, various aspects of the environment with local painters and creatives of any skill level. The next day these artists will give an artist talk on their own practice to the general public.

“En plein air” traditionally describes the practice of painting the landscape. These workshops although held outdoors challenge the traditional notion of landscape painting. Each of these artists interact with the environment in their own way, seeking out the particular aspects which satisfy their particular area of interest from narrative to the hidden, visceral or scientific explorations of the land and its components. The participants will get the opportunity to experience these diverse creative approaches and methodologies for themselves, finding new ways to see a familiar place or approach a piece of work.

The workshops are designed to suit all skill levels and therefore open to a wide community of creatives or curious participants. This hands-on, challenging outdoor programme of events throughout the summer months encourages creativity in the community and supports Irish artists financially while bringing awareness of their work to a wider community. The workshops will be open to 15 participants and the talks open to 30.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
