Engagement and Development with the script for the play Boy Racer
This project addresses an aspect of the material and non-material culture in Donegal and Ireland in an original, imaginative and creative way, through engagement with those involved in the car culture.
It opens up a dialogue between Boy Racers and those who are not. By allowing Boy Racers a voice and breaking down barriers to understanding, it promotes individual, community and national well-being.
The project is an exciting opportunity to explore in theatrical form a lived reality for very many young Donegal men today, disenfranchised men who find solidarity and community in the ‘car head’ community. "In speaking with them, it is clear that they want to have their story told, to be heard, they want to be seen as they really are - not as some supposed menace to society.", writer Brenda Kelly.
