Exploring Identity Through Creative Forms - A project by Promising Pages Writers' Group
Supported under Open Call Strand 1: Community/Creative Collaboration, Promising Pages Writers Group project bridges Roscommon’s literary past with contemporary creative expression, leaving a lasting cultural impact and strengthening community ties through the power of storytelling.
Promising Pages presents a six-session creative writing programme, Exploring Identity Through Fiction, Poetry, Drama & Music, aimed at understanding how cultural identity, personal experience, and historical events—particularly the Great Irish Famine—shape creative expression. This project blends facilitated workshops, literary excursions, and genre-diverse creative exercises to inspire new works that reflect personal, cultural, and historical narratives. Through visits to historically significant literary sites and peer-led discussions, participants will explore the deep connections between memory, place, and storytelling. The culmination of the project will be the creation of a miscellany—a published anthology of original works—paired with a public reading event to engage the wider community. This initiative bridges Ireland’s literary past with contemporary voices, fostering personal growth, creative collaboration, and cultural dialogue.
