Fighting Words Kerry 2019

Fighting Words is a free creative writing programme founded by Roddy Doyle in 2009. It operates on the premise that creative writing is an essential part of every child’s education: that giving children a real dedicated chance and space to explore the limitlessness of their imaginations, does great things.  The raw skills that are passed on are some of the key ingredients for succeeding in life with marked improvements in self-expression, literacy, self-esteem and self-confidence. Kerry Writers’ Museum, Listowel established the first Fighting Words Centre in Kerry in 2018 and continue to deliver free creative writing workshops to primary and secondary school pupils. The aim in 2019 is to broaden the reach yet again and to strengthen committment to the project. The ‘Fighting Words’ Creative Writing Programme is supported through Creative Ireland Kerry in partnership with the Kerry Writers Museum, the Seanchaí Centre Listowel. The intention is to extend the project as an opportunity for the entire county.  The feedback and take up from schools has been most positive with in excess of 200 children having participated in year one.
