Fighting Words Kerry

Fighting Words is a free creative writing programme founded by Roddy Doyle in 2009. It operates on the premise that creative writing is an essential part of every child’s education: that giving children a real dedicated chance and space to explore the limitlessness of their imaginations, does great things.  The raw skills that are passed on are some of the key ingredients for succeeding in life with marked improvements in self-expression, literacy, self-esteem and self-confidence.

Kerry Writers’ Museum, Listowel has been delivering the Fighting Words programme to schools in Kerry since 2018.  In our 2-hour story making workshops participants will write the first part of the story together as a group, then each child has the opportunity to write and illustrate their own individual ending to the story, with the assistance and encouragement of our volunteer mentors.  The story and illustrations are bound, and each participant receives a book to take home.

This is a free event for schools.  Booking is required and can be made by downloading the booking form on Kerry Writers museum website
