Fighting Words Project for Disadvantaged Teenagers in County Louth

The Louth County Libraries are collaborating with Fighting Words to deliver a multi-dimensional project for disadvantaged teenagers in the Dundalk, Drogheda and Ardee areas. The project combines elements of creativity, literacy, art, performance and mindfulness, feeding in to the vision and values of Louth County Council’s Culture & Creativity Strategy.

This is a cross agency collaboration involving a multi-disciplinary project facilitated by the Fighting Words Team. Fighting Words will lead on developing workshops for teenagers from disadvantaged backgrounds in the Dundalk, Drogheda and Ardee areas. Workshops will combine the artistic genres of creative writing, graphic design, and music to allow participants to articulate their thoughts and feelings through their creativity.

The first series of workshops will run over a 3 month period from September 2021 with weekly sessions for participants. The second series will run from February 2022. Workshops will take place both virtually and in Dundalk, Drogheda and Ardee Libraries. At the end of the project, the written work of the participants will be compiled into a book which will be published.

Updates on the project will be posted to the Creative Ireland Louth Facebook page.
