Fíorúil: Mayo Artists in View
Ireland is renowned for its song, music and storytelling traditions. Mayo has a strong part in this tradition from Matt Molloy and Joe Byrne to Emer Mayock and Pap Murphy. This tradition is changing and must be preserved. The idea of Fíorúil is to highlight some of the many characters involved in traditional music and folklore across the county and to record their stories for our archives.
It has two elements:
1) The recording of 12 one-hour audio interviews comprising the musicians talking about their musical upbringing, their influences and the county that has shaped them.
2) The making of a 40 to 60 minute documentary film which will comprise of the selected artists' stories.
