Encore Productions are a theatre company for adults living with intellectual disabilities using RehabCare services in Dundalk. For over two decades they have been creating and performing original theatre and adapting classic plays. From 2019 to 2024 they were Theatre Company in Residence at An Tain Arts Centre Dundalk and from 2024 have been Community Company in Residence – also at An Tain. In 2025 they will research, devise, perform and tour an original muliti media production of based on the life of Mary Shelly and how the turbulent times in which she lived – politically, philosophically and personally –influenced the genesis of her gothic novel FRANKENSTEIN.
Encore’s unique style of theatre combines powerful live action, stunning filmed elements and atmospheric sound design to bring the stories they till vividly to life. To this end they will work with film maker Dara McKluskey, artist Orlaith Cullinane, movement specialist Fiona Keenan O’Brien, Costume Designer Eileen Johnstone as well as specialists in voice and set design to bring a new depth of skills and process to the 20 actors and crew involved in the project.
Skills development workshops will begin in An Tain in April and will continue through the summer. Filmed elements will be captured on stage toward the end of May with rehearsals continuing until the 3 initial performances at An Tain Dundalk at the start of October. A tour will follow – The Hawkswell Theatre in Sligo having been confirmed on the 14th October
