Gathering Heritage - Amazing Lives 2020
The Gathering Heritage project seeks to preserve cultural heritage for future generations by using digital media via audio recordings, animated cartoons, video clips, blogs and online communities. We want to enable people to capture oral histories from people who want to talk about their lifetime experiences e.g. going to school, holidays, work life, etc.
We want to support community groups such as Old Dundalk, Society, Men’s Shed, ICA, Cross Border Support Groups as well as marginalised groups so they can share their unique heritage with a global audience online. We want to build on the success of the “Gathering Heritage – Amazing Lives” project in 2019 where we successfully collected approx 20 interviews in Louth and make them accessible via podcasts on our website then shared and engaged via social media platforms.
Our digital recording platform enables us to engage with secondary schools to allow them to contribute stories via mobile apps. We plan to provide them with a series of questions to be able to hold their own interviews with family, friends or loved ones to capture stories and then submit to our channel. These stories will be reviewed, catalogued and then published to our Gathering Heritage channel.
