Glaoch! with John Lillis

Clare Arts Office in partnership with Creative Ireland have commissioned Clare artist and musician John Lillis to produce Glaoch! a recording project that aims at amplifying the voices of national school children in Clare. A transmission of young thoughts and opinions as radio waves. Glaoch! will see artist/producer John Lillis work with local schools in Clare to develop three 30 minute radio shows created, directed and presented by primary school students. These shows will be broadcast over Clare FM and Dublin Digital radio.

In our current social climate of restricted movement and distanced interactions, our dependence on each other and our ability to communicate lies at the core of our wellbeing. Radio remains one of the more potent mediums available to us, partially down to the simplicity  of the format.  It serves only our ears, the rest lies in our imagination. Radio is a way to send a message, to amplify a voice to a community or nation, to connect. Though much content is created and directed towards young people, children's voices are seldom heard on radio transmissions.  Glaoch! aims to give volume and airwaves to primary school students, creating a unique radio experience that is fostered organically within the classroom.

In consultation with the artist and the nominated class teacher, a number of key conversational areas will be identified in advance. The structure of a radio show will be explored.
