Halloween Harvest
Healthy Galway City, Galway City Partnership and local primary schools will collaborate with volunteers of Ballinfoile Mór Community Garden to host a Halloween Harvest Event on Wednesday 25th October 2023.
School children from local schools will visit the garden and experience an entertaining and in-depth tour by the head gardener. Students and their parents can learn what is growing seasonally, how a community garden operates and all about the amazing variety of fruits and vegetables that can be enjoyed fresh from the garden.
Parents will be invited to accompany their children so that they can enjoy the event, and develop a sustainable and ongoing relationship with the community garden.
Following the tour, students and parents in small groups will enjoy an interactive baking demonstration with a local Chef, incorporating seasonal produce including pumpkins, courgettes, apples and carrots.
All attendees will sample fresh baked goods made with fruit and vegetables harvested from the garden.
Every student will receive a pumpkin and participate in a facilitated workshop to bring their jack-o-lantern to life using paints and art supplies. To prevent waste, everyone will go home with parental instructions on safe carving, a recipe for pumpkin soup and toasted seeds.
Children will be able to enjoy face painting and balloon sculpture throughout the event.
To finish, children and adults will enjoy captivating and suitably spooky story telling.
Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
