Heritage through Hands – Eco Craft Laboratory
Heritage Through Hands – Eco Craft Laboratory is a six‑month community creative programme taking place in County Louth. Each month explores a different traditional craft practice using recycled and discarded materials, blending Irish heritage crafts with cultural traditions shared by local migrant communities.
Across 12 hands‑on workshops, participants will engage in willow weaving, decoupage and surface decoration, textile weaving and tapestry, small furniture restoration, and fabric art and rug making using old clothes. All materials are reclaimed, reused, or donated, supporting circular-economy principles and practical, creative climate action.
The programme supports Creative Ireland’s goals by encouraging participation in creative activity for wellbeing, promoting sustainable low‑waste craft, strengthening community connections through shared making, and celebrating cultural diversity and heritage.
The project culminates in Threads of Heritage, a public exhibition showcasing collaborative artworks created during the workshops, accompanied by stories about materials, techniques, and cultural meaning. The programme provides inclusive, accessible creative spaces where people can learn, share skills, and build confidence while responding to climate awareness through hands‑on action.
