Heritage through Hands – Eco Craft Laboratory
Heritage Through Hands – Eco Craft Laboratory is a six‑month community creative programme in County Louth exploring traditional craft through sustainable, low‑waste practices. Each phase focuses on a different heritage craft using recycled and discarded materials, blending Irish craft traditions with cultural practices shared by local migrant communities. A core aim of the programme is to train creative participants to lead upcycling workshops in their own communities, spreading eco‑thinking and extending the life of old materials.
Through hands‑on workshops, participants will learn willow weaving, decoupage and surface decoration, textile weaving and tapestry, small furniture restoration, and fabric art and rug making using old clothes. All materials are reclaimed, reused, or donated, supporting circular‑economy principles and practical creative climate action, while encouraging wellbeing, community connection, and cultural exchange.
Workshops take place from 11.00–13.00 at St. Mary’s Parish Pastoral Centre in Drogheda (A92 XY89) on the following dates: April 30th; May 14th and 28th; June 11th and 25th; July 9th and 23rd; August 6th and 20th; September 3rd and 17th; and October 1st.
The project concludes with Threads of Heritage, a public exhibition showcasing collaborative artworks and the stories behind their materials, techniques, and cultural meaning.
