Dates

to 20th Aug 2021

Age Range
All ages

The project proposes to honour the heritage of traditional music in the County of Westmeath through the creation of a large artwork which will be hung in a central location in the town of Mullingar during the week of Fleadh 2021. (Such as a large shop front window)

Geraldine O'Reilly says "In the artwork I plan to combine a number of large portraits of important Westmeath musicians (with their instruments) setting them against a backdrop of images from the two Fleadhs. I also want to incorporate and integrate into the design many of the names of other musicians and singers for which there is either no visual reference to work from or space in the overall design but I would seek to remember and honour. I have integrated image and text in previous artworks."

An Post in February 2020 used an image of Geraldine's from her exhibition ‘Journal’ which was based on a series of emigrant letters for their series of special issue stamps titled ‘The Irish Abroad. She was short listed for a % for art commission in 2019 to celebrate the famous collector of Irish Harp music, Edward Bunting. She recreated pages from his manuscript.
