To mark Earth Day 2022 for the community of Athlone, Mimi Seery will be unveiling a new public art installation at Athlone Civic Centre Green.

I See You is inspired by the African philosophy of Ubuntu. The title of the work is linked into the idea that once we truly see someone, they become real. That the less we see ourselves as individuals, the more we see humanity.

The installation - a mirror shaped in the silhouette of a human form with a hand raised in greeting - will lay flat on the area, immersed in the green grass surrounding it.

Public interaction with the work is key to its completion.

To see oneself reflected in a mirrored silhouette of another human being not only connects us with the artwork, but to ourselves, the sky above us and the earth beneath us. It intends to create a shift in how we think about ourselves, how we see each other, and how we view every other living thing on the planet. 

I See You will be on display from April 22nd (Earth Day) to May 23rd, 2022
