I'll Put a Stone on your Cairn

Artist Mimi Seery will engage with the local community through an Art & Heritage workshop in Abbey Road. They will create artworks which respond to stories and events occurred within the former Workhouse.

This project is a collaboration between artist Mimi Seery and local historian, author, and former town librarian Gearoid O'Brien. The community group involved is the community of Athlone. Artworks created by the community workshops will be exhibited at Athlone Library to be enjoyed by the broader local community.

Participants from the local community will attend an art and heritage workshop to learn, discuss & create an artwork that responds to events that occurred at the Athlone Workhouse. Inspired by our prehistoric rituals of raising cairns to honour the dead, participants will assemble and decorate their own small cairn to honour the inmates of the Workhouse.

Outcomes from the workshop will be exhibited at Athlone Library accompanied by a talk and performance of poetry inspired by the workshop.

The workshop will take place on the 3 May from 11:30, with a public exhibition in Aidan Heavey Library, Athlone from 13th - 20th May.

If you are interested in attending this workshop, you can reserve your place on Eventbrite.
