In Anxious Expectation - A Two Day Consideration of Migration and the Search for the Elusive Ancestor
A two-day conference exploring general themes of migration, with particular emphasis on County Cavan.
Topics include;
- County Cavan before 1700
- The Kingdom within the County - Glangevlin
- Thinking about Human Migration
- Aspects of emigration from County Cavan
- The GAA abroad
- Researching our farmers ancestors
The second day includes a Genealogy workshop on Genealogical sources and context, online sources, administrative divisions and origin and development of Irish surnames. The conference draws to a close following a guided historical bus tour of west Cavan. Speakers include:
- Dr Patrick Fitzgerald, Mellon Centre for Migration Studies
- Monsignor Liam Kelly, a priest of the Diocese of Kilmore and Historian
- Dr Brendan Scott, Manager Irish Family Hisory Foundation, Historian and Lecturer
- Arthur Sullivan, Journalist with German public broadcaster, Deutsche Welle
- Dr William Roulston, Research Director fo the Ulster Historical Foundation
