In Anxious Expectation - A Two Day Consideration of Migration and the Search for the Elusive Ancestor

A two-day conference exploring general themes of migration, with particular emphasis on County Cavan.

Topics include;

  • County Cavan before 1700
  • The Kingdom within the County - Glangevlin
  • Thinking about Human Migration
  • Aspects of emigration from County Cavan
  • The GAA abroad
  • Researching our farmers ancestors
The first day concludes with an evening of traditional music, poetry, song and dance.

The second day includes a Genealogy workshop on Genealogical sources and context, online sources, administrative divisions and origin and development of Irish surnames. The conference draws to a close following a guided historical bus tour of west Cavan. Speakers include:

  • Dr Patrick Fitzgerald, Mellon Centre for Migration Studies
  • Monsignor Liam Kelly,  a priest of the Diocese of Kilmore and Historian
  • Dr Brendan Scott, Manager Irish Family Hisory Foundation, Historian and Lecturer
  • Arthur Sullivan, Journalist with German public broadcaster, Deutsche Welle
  • Dr William Roulston, Research Director fo the Ulster Historical Foundation
  • Concepta McGovern and Mary Sullivan, Cavan Genealogy
