International Jazz Day at Boyle Film Club

Supported by Open Call Strand 1: Community/Creative Collaboration, INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY Boyle on April 30th 2025

This film & music event will explore Ireland’s own jazz journey and its place in our history. From the era of the anti-jazz campaigns of the 1930s, to its influence on dancehall music nationwide during the 1940’s & 50’s, to producing one of the world’s greatest jazz guitarists—Louis Stewart whose legacy is a burgeoning jazz scene today that is recognized internationally. 

Featuring:

A specially created 15 minute film comprised of historic clips and photos, from the period of the anti-jazz campaigns, the dancehall-dance band era, through to concert footage of Louis Stewart & some of Irelands top jazz musicians today.

Classic jazz Performance by Christine Tobin/Phil Robson Quintet 

Screening of Jimmy’s Hall the renowned 2014 film by Ken Loach
