Athy Sing & Sign aim to organise an Irish Sign Language (ISL) Festival in Athy Town, to share their passion for ISL with the community and encourage others to learn. This will be their third year hosting the festival, with the previous two years having been very successful. The festival will feature ISL lessons in local schools, STEAM workshops, ISL performances, bingo, sing/sign along karaoke, a children's puppet show, and an ISL boat trip for members of the Deaf Community.
Their mission is to provide a supportive and positive learning environment in which all attendants have the opportunity to develop their ISL skills and to learn about Deaf Culture and the Deaf Community. Many of the events during the festival will also involve music, as Sing & Sign teach the language through music and song. There will be a wide variety of musical genres represented, including traditional Irish, pop, rock, R&B and more.
A booklet will also be produced to accompany the festival, which will feature a specially commissioned caricature of Athy Town with accompanying illustrations showing the names of local landmarks in ISL.
Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
