John Mitchels GAA Podcast series

Our aim is to record a 6 part audio documentary series focusing in on the evolution of the John Mitchels club and area over the past 50 years, beginning with the voices who navigated the John Mitchels GAA club through the 70s and 80s and finishing with the people who are central to its existence today.

Many of the characters who played a massive role in bringing the club to where it is today are sadly no longer with us and we think it is important to capture the remaining voices before it is too late. We hope to document the social history of the area and be a reference point for future generations.

The project is a great opportunity to show how with regeneration in the area over the past 15 years it has shown a very positive growth in kids from non traditional Mitchels areas playing with the club and also a very strong structure in place for girls and ladies to play Gaelic Football with the club that might feature this significantly in the series.

Each episode would be presented by a different voice from within the club and represent the many cultures and nations that now make up the Mitchels club as seen today.

Each programme would be recorded, produced and edited to high standard and archived and be made available in a digital platform which would be accessible from the club website and also made available to the Kerry County Library.
