Kilfinane Collage Project with Veronica Santorum

This project nurtures creative collaboration in Kilfinane Co Limerick during Covid. Socially distanced workshops and online resources will facilitate community members to create collages using natural materials for a street art and online exhibition.

This will help people make art together during Covid, help Kilfinane continue to develop its sense of place and identity as ‘mountain village’ close to nature, with a creative community linked to the wider world and enhance Kilfinane’s streetscape.

Difficulties caused by Covid currently prevent the Kilfinane Art, Craft and Traditional Skills subgroup of the Community Council from running creative projects and art classes. Rural challenges have been accentuated by the outbreak and approaches that might be taken to engage communities in cultural activity in other areas are difficult here with an older age profile, poor internet connectivity, low computer literacy levels and old meeting spaces. Covid adds to the problems of social and rural isolation. This project is important because it tests ways to circumvent the challenges and try and counter isolation through creative activity.
