Kilgobnet Historic Graveyard-Community Heritage Project
Kilgobnet Church is situated 5km north of Dungarvan and is dedicated to Saint Gobnait the patron saint of beekeepers. The site dates back to early medieval times and there are some interesting architectural remains of the Romanesque church within the site.
The Graveyard Committee maintain the physical and the historical interest of the Graveyard and will develop a Management Plan for the site in collaboration with the committee.
The development of a Management Plan for the Graveyard includes practical elements such as repairs of stone pillars by a stone mason, recording of the memorial inscriptions and exploration of the site’s heritage including dedication to St. Gobnait and the pattern to the adjacent Holy Well known as Tober Aphoona.
The project will deliver an agreed plan amongst all involved agencies (WCCC, Kilgobnet Parish, National Monuments Service) on the future management of Kilgobnet Graveyard including conservation of stone features, vegetation management and presentation and promotion of its heritage interest.
