KTCM (Kilkenny Traveller Community Movement) is delighted to host workshops and opportunities for the Traveller Community to engage and create cultural contributions which includes a celebration of Traveller Culture Day in the Kilkenny Castle Park on July 19th and a celebration of Traveller Heritage and Culture in Butler Gallery, Evans' Home on July 22nd as part of Traveller Pride Week 2022.
Traveller Culture Day consists of a 'CANT' wall to celebrate Traveller language, a 'Great Wall of China' celebration the elder women and their connection to Delph/ China/ Crystal, recreation of an old- style encampment and storytelling setting, a stage area with traveller singing, dancing, games, a tin smith display, a wagon and horse display and interagency stalls from many organisations including the Local Authority, ETB, HSE/ Healthy Ireland, An Garda Síochana, the Fire Brigade etc.
On July 22nd, Butler Gallery will host an event workshop that will celebrate Traveller art and spoken word in style. The workshop will include local artists, poets and interagency involvement. A showcase of artwork and a book created by local travellers will be on display along with work from a local tin smithing project.
