Lá na Cruite Harp Day 2024: Developing Roscommon's Harping Heritage

CÉHI, in partnership with harpers, teachers and communities
in Roscommon, proposes an exciting programme of events which revisit, celebrate and develop
the Roscommon harping tradition as part of Lá na Cruite | Harp Day Roscommon 2024, on
Saturday 19th October. This project will embody CÉHI’s Harp Day Theme Cothú (Nurture or Nourish) by building upon Roscommon’s harping heritage as homeplace to renowned 17th century harper, Turlough Carolan. Partnerships with local harpers, Music Generation Roscommon and Leitrim will enable us to bring harpers and communities together, extend the harp’s reach to people who may not have had the opportunity to experience it before, and celebrate the unique harping legacy of the county. Events
will be held at King House, a popular, busy venue with significant public footfall opening access to
harping and attracting new audiences to this aspect of cultural heritage.
