Let the Light in, Inspire, Create, Show. Celebrating Harry Clarke’s centenary in Dingle

A cultural celebration of Irelands Master of Stained glass, Harry Clarke, 1889 – 1931.

‘Let The Light In’

International artist Ben Dearnley will lead this exciting project to help celebrate the amazing set of stained glass windows in An Diseart in the heart of Dingle town.

A series of workshops with local schools and community groups will come together to form a set of contemporary stained glass like panels. These will form an installation to be displayed during the month August. This will also coincide with Heritage week where the public will also be invited to join Ben to make their own contribution to the final panel. The exhibits will lead both visitors and locals to come and see the installation and then on to view the Harry Clarke windows in the Chapel upstairs at An Diseart.

Harry Clarke’s windows were intended to be a Celtic interpretation of bible scenes by an Irish artist and were commissioned in 1922 & later installed in April of 1924. They marked a turning point in Irish history as Harry Clarke was a major part of the Celtic revival taking place at that time. His unique skills as a draftsman and glass worker have not been surpassed since.

Information boards/cards will be attached to each exhibit in Irish and English. These will explain the process which has been undertaken by the relative school or community group and have an educational and historical aspect about them too.
