This project by the Daniel O’Connell Summer School honours O’Connell’s legacy of local enrichment and emancipation with an O’Connell-themed gala orchestral and vocal performance, by home-grown tenor and international opera singer Gavan Ring and other Kerry performers such as mezzo-soprano Paula Murrihy and soprano Megan O’Neill, in the atmospheric, spacious and maritime-themed open air market place/show room of the Skellig Six 18 Distillery in Cahersiveen. Acknowledging O’Connell’s European affiliation and his almost certain connection and knowledge of cultural luminaries such as Mozart, Beethoven and Verdi, the programme will consist of freedom-themed music from all the great contemporary European composers of O’Connell’s era such as Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, trailblazing female composer Clara Schumann, Rossini, Verdi and Irish composers Thomas Moore and Michael William Balfe. The performance will be recorded for broadcast on RTÉ Lyric FM.
