Life under the Cloak’ St Brigid 1500

‘Life under the Cloak’ is a Textile project that will involve 5 Kildare national schools (named in honour of St Brigid) and Rathangan artist/designer Aideen Cross, who will work together with 6th class students and their teachers to create Textile art pieces with the theme being of this inspiring lady St Brigid.

The students will trace back St Brigid’s history and her huge connection to Co Kildare. They will research Brigid’s heroic life and reflect on her achievements, feminine strength and kind and cunning ways. Aideen hopes the students will get to know this local lady who symbolises strength, faith and kindness and learn of the folklore stories of her life. The students will get a chance to design and create with fabric and fibre, working together as a team, learning new skills as they create their art pieces and gaining local historical knowledge.

Aideen is honoured to be part of this wonderful collaboration between the 5 different local national schools and is planning an exhibition to showcase these textile art pieces at a local St Brigid commemoration in February 2023-24.
