" Lines Connecting "
Lines Connecting is a print-making project happening over a period of approx. 9 - 10 weeks, between artist Jules Michael and service users from Delta Hanover, the Carlow based centre that provides training, day and multi-sensory services to adults with learning disabilities.
The title, Lines Connecting, reflects the creative actions within it, as the project is designed to include - and connect - members of Delta Hanover, the artist, and creative actions. A distinctive element to Lines Connecting is that service users will train certain staff members of the centre in the use of a small table top printing press. This will leave a legacy for creative self-action and facilitation within the centre into the future.
Jules uses nature based themes in her practice - native plants, hedgerows and folklore;these will form part of the creative frame for Lines Connected, weaving a circular and embedded relationship between Delta artists and a professional artist's practice. Participants will use visual research gathered from Tate, MOMA, etc. & artists' monographs Jules is examining in her own studio as part of her practice. If a participant is working in a specific way, Jules researches contemporary artists working with similar methods, creating a reciprocal conversation between participant, the art work being made, and contemporary visual research.
Lines Connecting will conclude with an exhibition of work created over the time of the project in the public exhibition space in Carlow Library.
