Luan Gallery Art Fair

Dates
10th Aug 2020
to 27th Nov 2020

Age Range
All ages

The Covid-19 crisis has created an uncertain time for the culture sector, with visual arts proving particularly vulnerable to the raft of events cancellations and venue closures, and there is a very real expectation of a lasting impact for the years to follow. The Art Fair is a response to the current situation, a creative solution to how Luan Gallery in its capacity as the Municipal Gallery for County Westmeath may offer its support and provide access to a safe space to channel the generosity of the local community—which is abundant.

Due to space limitation, the Fair will be open to creative practitioners working within 2D and small scale 3D. Applicants will be reviewed by a panel. Following on from conversations with local artists and responding to the success of online initiatives such as the Artist Support Pledge, the Fair will allow Luan Gallery to trial a new initiative for supporting and promoting local arts and to connect local makers with the community.

An open call for participants will be issued in August. The call will be advertised online via the Luan Gallery and Athlone Arts and Tourism websites and social media channels.

The Art Fair will also act as a catalyst for our community’s interest and energy towards change as it mobilises communities of support. It is inherently participatory and participation in the arts can lead to more active citizenship and the cultivation of positive civic values.
