The Coinini Women’s group, facilitated by the Rabbits Riot Theatre Company, are creating a public art installation to be displayed in various businesses and premises around Manorhamilton.
These diorama style models are all contained within a variety of glass objects the women have found in their homes, including a glass tea pot! The project began as an investigation into historical and mythological women from Sligo and Leitrim, how women were portrayed through history and why they may (or may not) be viewed through a particular lens.
Each display will have a QR code on it, linking the viewer to the Rabbits Riot website where they can discover the origins of the model, more information on the characters portrayed and access a map of the town indicating where in Manorhamilton each of the models are displayed.
The Coinini Women’s Group was founded as a safe, strong and supportive place for women from all walks of life to explore their place in rural Ireland through the lens of the constitution, now, with growing numbers, it is digging deeper into the evolution of women through discussion and creative expression from millennia of myths and history.
