Mapping Manorhamilton - A Story Quilt
Artists Liz Byrne and Phoebe Dick are working with North Leitrim Women’s Centre to develop a ‘story quilt’ of Manorhamilton Town, mapping the physical, historical, cultural and environmental landscape, past and present, using a variety of creative techniques.
The impetus for the project comes from a previous cross-border Peace Project of North Leitrim Women’s Centre, during which seven story quilts were created, depicting four villages/communities in Leitrim and three in Fermanagh.
Introductory workshops will explore memories, connections and emotions around spaces and places in Manorhamilton – how has Manorhamilton changed over the years? Childhood memories… Growing up in Manorhamilton…Moving to Manorhamilton…. Shopping, working in Manorhamilton…. Manorhamilton now…
From these stories, women will create a textile map of Manorhamilton, using mainly recycled fabric and materials and a variety of creative techniques (including, but not limited to) fabric screen-printing, sewing, knitting, crochet, wet felting, needle-felting, embroidery, cross-stitch or whatever other crafts and skills participants bring to the process.
