Meath County Council Schools Musical Instrument Purchase Scheme 2020
The Schools Musical Instrument Purchase Scheme (SMIPS) 2020 arts grant allocation will help music education continue in Meath classrooms despite the challenges posed by Covid 19.
Facilitated through the Arts Office, SMIPS is an annual strand of funding intended to support the development of musical instrument resources in both Primary and Secondary schools.
The high volume of schools applying under the 2020 scheme, highlighted the urgent requirement of schools to modify classroom practices to ensure the safe delivery of music education.
Recognising the unprecedented effect public health measures have had on young people’s school experiences, mental health and wellbeing; music, sport, art and other recreational pursuits are now more important than ever.
The Creative Ireland SMIPS co funding enables us to support local schools to both creatively adapt existing music programmes and establish new structures for safe practical music engagement. 16 schools, both primary and secondary will be assisted under this scheme enabling 1,900+ children and young people take part in Covid adapted music programmes.
