Medical Notes: Enabling Creativity in the Heart of our Healthcare Community
Medical Notes will take the form of ten visits by three professional hospital musicians to patients in Our Lady of Lourdes and Louth Co Hospital. The project, designed and developed by Grainne Hope, artistic director of Kids Classics in collaboration with the Hospital Arts Committee will offer patients, staff and visitors an opportunity to listen to live music performance, and to sing along and interact with the musicians in a relaxed and creative way.
Kids Classics deliver Ireland’s largest Music in Healthcare programme in over ten hospitals, nursing homes and hospices. The ward visits are conducted by professional musicians who are all trained in appropriate approaches, competences and musicianship to work effectively in such a sensitive environment. The Nursing staff are very supportive of the musician’s visits and work closely with them in terms of which wards and patients to visit. The musicians bring a wide and varied repertoire of music and songs to the project. The Medical Notes project will open up the option and opportunity for patients and families attending the hospital to participate in friendly cultural activity within the hospital walls. The focus will be on the Stroke and Geriatric wards but we will offer the opportunity to engage with music to other patients. The project will be sustained throughout the year with monthly ward visits and the aim is to boost the wellbeing of all in the healthcare community, patients, staff and visitor
