Mincéirí Ag Canadh - Travellers Singing

Waterford City & County Council, Waterford Traveller Community Development Project and Waterford Traveller Interagency Group will work collaboratively with local Travellers to produce a series of 6 recordings of Traveller people singing traditional Traveller songs and other ballads to celebrate Traveller Pride 2022. These recordings will be uploaded on the organisation’s websites for present and future generations of Travellers and the public to enjoy.

Music and singing form a very important aspect of Traveller culture and historically traditional songs have been passed down in families and carried around the country by Travellers who helped keep the songs alive. The proposed project connects with these customs and gives the wider community a chance to appreciate the songs sung by members of the Traveller community.

Waterford Traveller Community Development Project will take the lead and deliver the project Mincéirí Ag Canadh - Travellers Singing on behalf of the partners.

A series of 6 professionally produced recordings will be produced. The recordings and photographs will be available to be viewed on WTCDP, Creative Waterford, TIG agency and Waterford Council social media accounts with permission of the singers.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
