Momentum 2021 is a one-off, mini-festival of community arts. It is an invitation to the communities of Lusk and Rush, old and new, to meet and greet safely again, while engaging with creativity and culture in innovative ways.
Adhering to all public health guidelines in place in mid-August, the festivities will include guided walks and street performances led by actors in character; opportunities to meet neighbours real and fictional from 100 years ago and 50 years ago and today, in doorway and street corner performances. Family and small social groups will be invited to enter very old and very new unoccupied houses and listen to artistic soundscapes of domestic and social life – from Johnny Cash’s infamous concert in Rush to tales of farming, fishing and domestic life of both towns in old days, to sounds of hope as children integrate in diverse housing communities. Films, small-audience intimate concerts; heritage photo exhibitions; and creative play events for children in family groups all feature.
This is an all-inclusive, accessible arts festival with events live-streamed or pre-recorded and made available online to older people in residential care, and to others who may be cocooning still. Full details will be published as the date draws near, with the programme evolving every day as Fingal prepares to leave behind the challenges of the past 18 months and face forward into a bright, creative and healthy future.
