Monaghan Murals

Working with creative artists and local community groups to develop a series of murals and associated interpretation workshops in the main county towns reflecting the culture and heritage of the area.

Monaghan County Museum, working in partnership with the Patrick Kavanagh Centre as well as other key partners within the County Council and wider community, plan to develop a project aimed at supporting local artists and engaging the community in their history and heritage through the medium of murals.

These murals will reflect various aspects of the history, heritage and folklore of the county. The project will also feature a community engagement element where the artists will interact with the community and use the murals as a catalyst for discussion and exploration of our county’s incredible historical richness and cultural diversity. In doing so we intend to inspire people in our local community to explore their own creativity and expression.

The team will work with Monaghan Municipal District, Castleblayney / Carrickmacross Municipal District, Monaghan Town Team, Monaghan Tidy Towns, Castleblayney Regeneration and Castleblayney Tidy Towns.

Outputs/outcomes:

  • Over a three-year period, we intend to develop murals in each of the main county towns.
  • There will be a series of interactive workshops between the artists and the community.
  • The towns can then use these murals to market their area to potential customers/visitors both locally, nationally and internationally.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
