Music in Older Healthcare Settings

Covid Care Concerts is a new initiative created by acclaimed Irish cellist Gerald Peregrine. The project was conceived in late April 2020 in response to the many social and economic challenges created by Covid-19. Wicklow County Council first piloted the concerts by Gerald and Mobile Music Machine in 2020 and are delighted to have secured additional funding through the Creative Communities Pillar of the Creative Ireland Programme to roll out a consistent concert programme in County Wicklow engaging older residents of nursing homes throughout the county.

The series involves some of Ireland’s finest classical musicians and opera singers presenting live, outdoor socially distanced concerts in the gardens and grounds of residential care homes and hospital settings across Ireland.

The concerts follow all HSE guidelines around social distancing.

Where possible, residents sit outside to enjoy the concert, or listen through open windows. We perform under an enclosed marquee and also have the option to feed sound into the care homes via speakers. We also have portable heating to enable us to perform outside during the winter months. We hope that given the level of vaccination for Covid-19 that in home concerts will be possible for 2021. The residents are given the play lists in advance and the group will also facilitate special requests of residents.
