Healthy Kilkenny in collaboration with the Dementia Café and the Butler Gallery supported by Creative Ireland Kilkenny, is delighted to launch a new Music & Sound Therapy Programme for people living with dementia.
This exciting initiative has been made possible through the generous support of Butler Gallery, which has offered the use of a workshop space free of charge. Given the gallery's welcoming and creative environment, partners felt it presented a unique opportunity to enhance existing dementia-inclusive supports available in Kilkenny.
The programme will complement the Azure Dementia Inclusive Programme, hosted by Butler Gallery in collaboration with the Age Friendly Programme and The Alzheimer Society of Ireland. By introducing Music & Sound Therapy sessions through Dementia Café Kilkenny, participants will have access to an additional creative and therapeutic experience designed to support wellbeing, connection, and meaningful engagement.
The 16-week programme will be facilitated by Kairen Waloch, a professional sound director with extensive experience in using sound and music to promote wellbeing. Kairen uses a variety of instruments, many of them percussion-based, to create calming and uplifting soundscapes. Participants are encouraged to engage with the instruments themselves, regardless of musical experience or ability, creating harmonious sounds together in an inclusive and supportive setting.
