This project will engage residents of The Birches Alzheimer Day Centre, Dundalk with a music therapist. Goals of this project will be to stimulate social and musical interaction, enhance feelings of wellbeing and improve quality of life for the participants.  The participants will be provided with the opportunity to connect with their personhood and identity.  Individuals living with Alzheimer's Disease can reconnect with memories and others through music.  This is because music memories often remain in the brain even as language and other memories disappear.  Music has been proven to provide a greater sense of connection and socialisation for those who feel isolated.   The music therapist will run two large groups at the centre to provide a personalised approach allowing clients to share, connect, create and engage with their peers through the accessible and familiar nature of music.
