Oileánra
"Oileánra" introduces all sectors of the Community to a taster course in our natural heritage, language, archaeology, geology, history and biodiversity. The project enables course participants to develop heritage projects based in Letter Mullen and Ceantar na nOileán. The participants will receive training and important skills that would be lost or buried in the ground. The findings will be documented and shared with local and international audiences through videos and virtual tours of important sites and monuments. Technologies that allow the sharing of cultural heritage digitally will also be explored.
A variety of topics will be delivered to participants by a module leader. The project draws on the expertise of several people including John Bhaba Jeaic O’Conghaíle from Letter Mullen who is the Director of Letter Mullen Heritage Centre. John voluntary travels the country giving talks about our nation’s land and sea culture, history and heritage. Archaeologists Micheál Ó Giobúin and Richard Long will also deliver modules. Their expertise includes research on ancient remains in Ceantar na nOileán which showed that humans lived there 7,000 years ago.
One of the objectives is to produce a Web Story Map of the area integrating maps, legends, text, photos, and videos providing public information for locals, visitors and tourists, promote events, educate or simply inspire.
See Facebook for information on how to get involved.
