Our Lady of Mercy School Healing Arts Programme 2022

The effects of Covid 19 have brought untold damage on all communities. Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School Waterford are planning three projects which will culminate in an exciting Arts Week.

Bibliotherapy is the use of words to comfort, heal and inspire. The students will create a zine of stories told by the elderly and the youth in the area which will be launched during the community Arts Week. This publication will contain stories and images and it will contain QR codes to allow the reader to hear the person telling their story.

They will also train small groups of musicians who will perform concerts in the local area during their Arts Week. They will perform for the local community in public spaces and outside the homes of the elderly living near the school. They will also perform for the local primary schools and in Assisi House day centre. Some songs and poems will be performed using sign language.

Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School will create a mural and sanctuary space on their school grounds that will be used to host outdoor events, particularly during the Healing Arts Week. These events will include concerts, story exchanges and an exhibition of creative art and photography by participants in our Arts Week.

All updates and images from the Healing Arts Week will be shared on the Mercy School website and Facebook page.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
