Pass the Shoes 24
The year 2024 marks a significant milestone for the "National Famine Way", as it evolves into an international Global trail. To commemorate this occasion, Enchanted Croí Theatre is partnering with the National Famine Way and participating counties to offer a unique educational program for schools along the trail.
Centered around the "shoe stories" written by Marita Conlon-McKenna, the program will delve into the symbolism and significance of shoes during the Irish Famine. Through engaging drama workshops, students will explore these themes creatively, utilising devised theatre techniques to bring the stories to life. This educational initiative catalyses the week-long "Pass the Shoes 2024" event, a commemorative Famine walk that aimed to raise awareness and honour the victims of the Great Hunger.
Longford Primary Schools local to the "The National Famine" are taking part in this programme. These include Scoil Mhuire, Clondra, Tashinny N.S., and St. Sinneach's N.S. Colehill, Co. Longford.
The programme coincides with The National Famine Commemoration 2024 in Edgeworthstown.
