Patrick Kavanagh Legacy Programme
The Kavanagh Legacy Programme is a series of discreet projects stimulating fresh perspectives on the life and work of Patrick Kavanagh, one of Irelands most beloved poets, and the significance of his work in a contemporary context.
This will be achieved through several project strands
- Radio Essays: An ongoing series of broadcast-quality essays for radio/online will be devised and developed in collaboration with contemporary artists and thinkers offering fresh perspectives on Kavanaghs writing, philosophy and the milieu in which he lived.
- Kavanagh Memory Mapping Project: Engage an artistic facilitator to develop an archival schools project (8-13yrs) supporting the collection of recorded memories and photographs of Patrick Kavanagh from within the Inniskeen community and hinterland (Killanny/Carrick/Dundalk).
- Mentoring Bursary: Develop a Bursary Programme for schools / young adults in collaboration with the Kavanagh Centre and Kavanagh Weekend festival. This will involve a series of group workshops over a defined period with a contemporary writer, to support the creative development of emerging literary voices.
- Devise Original Performance Based on Childhood Themes explored in Kavanaghs Writing. An original performance-based work as above for an early year’s audience (4-8).
